Disk Encryption

Hey guys,

for some reasons I decided to crypt all of my stuff (harddrives, usb sticks, operating systems, etc.) using Truecrypt – you may have heard of it.

http://www.truecrypt.org/

It’s good and it’s free. So use it!

You can select which crypting algorithms shall be used within Truecrypt, and I’ve decided to use AES, the “Advanced Encryption Standard” (Wikipedia). The algo itself is called Rijndael (derived from the names of its developers).

A nice stick-figure based comic explaining what AES is and how it works can be found here:

Stick figure guide to AES

Decide yourself whether you need encryption or not.

From my point of view it’s a good thing, because my privacy is ensured and it does not spoil perfomance in any noticable way…
